HP Color LaserJet Pro M254dw Printer Reviews – The HP Color LaserJet Pro M254dw is a perfect option. M254dw offers all the printing performance of our Choice Award-winning HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M281fdw, but without the additional costs and complexity of its multifunctional functions. So you still get the very best text quality, impressive graphics for a fast laser printer, and a great touch-screen control panel that makes setup and troubleshooting a breeze. If you’re usually looking for great text and don’t mind connecting via a USB cable, you can save money with the HP LaserJet Pro M402n. If you tend to print a lot (multiple packages per month), consider upgrading to the Brother HL-L8360CDW, which has a higher paper capacity.Performance comparison
Thanks to the excellent print quality, the M254dw achieved one of the best overall scores in our tests. We used five different test statistics to determine our scores.Text quality
The M254dw produced great texts in our tests and shared the highest score of 9 out of 10 in this statistic with its multifunctional brother or sister. This was much better than the worst-scoring model, which earned a 3

The text of the M254dw is almost perfect. The character it produced in our tests looked bold and had smooth, smooth edges. Even under the intense examination of our microscope we could only see small imperfections and light spots. Occasionally when italic printing on fonts smaller than 10 points, we noticed some areas that just looked pale, which was the only thing that prevented the M254dw from achieving a perfect score in this statistic. However, it is such a small problem that we are confident that everyone who buys the M254dw is more than satisfied with the text quality.

M281fdw Operating costs
The M254dw was at the bottom in terms of both black and white printing costs, but fairly expensive for color and earned a 5 out of 10 in our operating cost metric. This placed it in the middle of the field in a metric with scores ranging from 2 to 7.

The M254dw prints black and white at just $ 0.03 per page or $ 14.46 per belt, but prints color at a fairly expensive $ 0.11 per page or $ 56.09 per belt. The estimated lifetime costs are $ 642, which is about $ 70 higher than the average of the models we tested. This is certainly not a budget model, but given the high performance you get, these costs are fairly reasonable.

Easy to use
The M254dw again shared the highest score in this metric with the MFP M281fdw, both models earned a 9 out of 10. This was a high rating in a metric where the scores were as low as 4.

The main reason for this high score was the touchscreen control panel of the M254dw. This allows easy navigation of printing functions and easy input of things such as Wi-Fi passwords, and provides a convenient platform for solving problems when needed. It also provides full and easy access to HP’s many online print apps that facilitate things like printing stamps from a stamp.com account, printing groceries or checklists, and printing pages with butter and cheese. Installation was a breeze, we had to let the printer roll out within 10 minutes of opening the box. It was also easy to connect the HP ePrint and print directly from a mobile device. To top it all off, you can quickly print directly from a flash drive via a USB port at the top of the printer.

Graphics / Photos
The M254dw achieved a 6 out of 10 in our photo and graphic quality testing. This is a fairly respectable score for a laser in a metric where scores varied from 2 to 7.

Simple images, such as line charts and bar charts, looked phenomenal when printed on the M254dw. Colors were clear and lines and beams had sharp edges. It only lost points because of its ability to print photos. The laser technology of the M254dw had noticeable difficulty in this area and produced grainy images. This is a great machine for heavy business documents with graphs, but not ideal for family letters with a photo. If you want a general printer at home / office that can also produce decent photos, you need an inkjet, such as the HP Officejet Pro 8720.

Print speed
The speed of the M254dw received a score of 7 out of 10 in our print speed tests, an above-average score in a metric with scores ranging from 3 to 9.

In our one-sided black and white text speed test, the cornerstone of our speed test, the M254dw was able to remove 15 pages per minute. Duplex printing shrank that figure

With a suggested retail price of $ 300, the M254dw is priced slightly above average for a single function printer. However, like most printers, you can find it online for much less than the list price. At the time of this writing, we have seen it priced as low as $ 200. Due to its high performance, we feel that the M254dw has decent value for the list price, and a good deal if you can find it for less. If you think that you will not use the color printing options and do not mind using a wired connection, the HP M402n would have a slightly better value.

The M254dw is a high-performance, single-sided printer. It is perfect for those who want a high-quality print option and who already need a scanner.
